Introducing Beyond411

Beyond411 provides free and convenient mobile search, including yellow pages, maps, driving directions, white pages, web search, and more.

Beyond411 allows you to search near your home, work, and "other" addresses.

The first time you use Beyond411, you will be prompted to enter your home, work, and other addresses. At any other time, you can get back to the address editing screen using the "Edit Addresses" menu item.

A dropdown history of "other" addresses allows you to get back to any recently entered address quickly.

Network options: If you do not have a BES, you should also configure your network settings to enable full autocomplete functionality. Beneath the addresses, click the "Direct" radio button under network settings. hen ensure your TCP settings are configured for your carrier.

Using GPS

Using GPS is easy. If your Blackberry supports GPS, the dropdown menu of locations will also include GPS as an option. This will search based on your current location.

Searching

To find something, type what you are looking for, click the trackwheel, and select the type of search you want to do. Beyond411 will suggest completions for your search based on a dictionary of common searches and past searches you have performed; you can reuse these by scrolling down to the completion and clicking the trackwheel. Use "Edit Search" if you want to update the search. You can select from the following types of searches:

Yellow Pages let you find local businesses by name or category.
White pages searches residential listings.
Web search searches the web using Yahoo, with results conveniently formatted for the Blackberry. Use the "Get Link" menu item to fetch the standard page or "Get Mobilized Link" to fetch a version optimized for your Blackberry.
Movies displays local movie times. Enter the name of a movie or leave the search field blank to see all movies.
Shopping displays Yokel local price search results-- type the name of the product you are looking for and you can see local stores selling that item and prices.
Sports lets you search for sports scores by team, city, or league name. Or leave the search field blank to show all teams in your city (for major sports cities only.)

In the yellow page results, clicking on a business phone number dials the business directly. Clicking on the business name displays driving directions and a map, and adds the business name and phone number to your search history for easy dialing later.

Changing your location

To change between your "work", "home", and "other" addresses, scroll to the "Location" field and press the space bar or use the menu key. To edit the addresses for your locations, use the "Edit Addresses..." menu item.

Plugins

Search plugins provide new kinds of searches that you can perform using Berry 411. You can see the currently available plugins. To add a plugin to your Beyond411 menu, you can use the "Edit Plugins" menu item and enter the name of the plugin. You can also specify a plugin as part of your search like this: "sport: seahawks" or "weather: seattle". Visit http://thebogles.com/berry/plugins on your PC if there is a new site you would like to share as a plugin.

Advanced Tips

Shorcut searches allow you to do plugin searches faster.
- "g:" starts a Google search with autocompletions from Google Suggest.
- "n:" goes directly to news.
- "s:" starts a shopping search.
- "t:" starts a Technorati blog search.
- "w:" goes directly to the local weather forecast.
Location overrides: You can override the default location by including it as part of your search, e.g. "Pizza Los Angeles CA" or "weather: chicago".
Saving directions: Use the "Save Page" menu item to save driving directions to your email inbox for easy retrieval.
